May PASS testing is just around the corner and we want our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to be as prepared as possible. We will be holding a PASS parent and student education night. This night will consist of:
• Parent and student review and learning of how PASS testing works and what are the core areas learned to prepare for PASS.
• Tokens/gifts will be provided by the school for drawing during the parent session.
• Packets will be given to parents with materials from your school as well as the Family Literacy program.
The schedule is as follows:
• 6:30: Parents and students arrive:
• 6:45: Parent Discussion led by Rita Saddler
• Students will report to designated classrooms with teachers
• 7:15: parents will join their student in a grade level class for, "Who is smarter than a 5th (4th)(3rd) Grader?” game.

Parents and Teachers can work together to make sure our students are getting the best preparation possible for their future academics. We look forward to seeing you there!

March 2010 Newsletter

The character word for the month of March is: SELF-DISCIPLINE.
This means that you are able to control your own behavior and actions.

PASS Writing testing will be Tuesday, March 16th and Wednesday, March 17th. This testing is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades only.

Some tips for preparing for any test include:
 Get a good night’s sleep
 Eat a healthy breakfast
 Study your materials in advance. DO NOT STUDY AT THE LAST MINUTE!!!
 Have all of your materials ready (sharpen your pencils, have at least 2 pencils in case one breaks, have an extra eraser, go to the restroom ahead of time, etc.)
 Follow all of the directions and instructions that your teacher gives you. LISTEN!
 Know that your teachers have been teaching you what to know. There is no big surprise.
 Know techniques to fight “test stress” (breath in and out slowly, count to 10, give yourself compliments, take a sip of water, etc.)

For the month of March we are participating in Pennies for Patients. This is not mandatory. Send in 1 penny or a boat load. Every penny counts!!! This money does go towards those children in our surrounding communities who are fighting Leukemia. The class with the most money will win an ice cream party!!! All money needs to be turned in by March 25th.

Thank you to everyone who bought a Ronald McDonald Charity Heart. They have been displayed in our front foyer for all to see. We have raised over $70 for this charity!!

Reuben Elementary will be hosting a Career Week the last week of March. March 29th to April 1st will be filled with career riddles, a writing contest, a coloring contest, a fashion show and more. As you know, the WRES news team has been reading all of your Career Interviews. We are also looking forward to setting up a Career Fair in the Gym on Thursday, April 1st. We need volunteers!!! I will be sending home a letter for those interested or who know someone who might be interested in coming out.
