December 2009 Newsletter

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.

December’s Character Word of the month is CITIZENSHIP. This means following the rules and being involved in your school, community, and country.

We are so thankful for all of the interview forms you have sent in! We are sharing these on the WRES morning news at the school. All of the children are learning so much about all of the different careers out in the world. Our students get to learn about these careers now so that they can begin to think about their futures. Having all of your interview forms help explain each of your careers and help the students decide what sounds interesting to them. THANK YOU so very much for contributing these!

This month we are learning about the difference between tattling and reporting/telling and also learning how to help stop bullying behavior at our school. Each grade level has a different lesson on these topics. Ask your child(ren) what they have learned in Classroom Guidance.

Congratulations to Reuben’s November Students of the Month:

Kamden Wix, Robert Longshore, Emily Spicer, Kaley Trent, Gene Harmon,
Rebecca Coffey, Jordan Alvarez, Tehya Cunningham, Layla Franklin, Grayson Dennis, and Brian Hyler.

November 2009

November is Career Month

FAIRNESS is the Character Word of the Month:

Careers Presented by WRES

Each morning before classes begin 4th and 5th graders go on morning announcements as the WRES news team. They say the pledge of allegiance, announce what the lunch will be for the day, talk about the weather, perform character skits, poems, or short stories, and announce any other information to their audience.

We would like to invite parents to join our morning news team in the month of November. November is known as Career Month and we would like to display your careers on the am news.

The WRES News Team begins setting up at 7:30am and begins announcements at 7:45am. It would be great for our parents to give a 5 to 10 minute talk or description of their careers for the entire school to see. All you have to do is bring yourself. Props are welcome as well.

If you are unable to make it to school we can send home a brief interview form and your child can read it to us during the morning news.

We would really be delighted for your expertise in your career. If you are interested please fill out the form below and return to the school. We will give you a call or email to set up a convenient time for you.

For any questions please call me at 321-2664 or email me at hmann@newberry.k12.sc.us.

Thank you for being such supportive and wonderful parents at Reuben Elementary School!

School Counselor

October 2009 Newsletter

October’s Character Word is Responsibility. Our students are responsible when they are accountable for their behavior. They are prepared for school, make good choices, take care of pets, and take care of themselves.

Fire Safety and Red Ribbon Week are both celebrated this month.

In Classroom Guidance we have gone over the importance of having a Fire Plan at school and at home. We also talked about what to do if you catch on fire (Stop, Drop, and Roll) and how to stay away from anything that could burn you. Our Silverstreet Fire Department will be bringing over their truck and their gear to show the students.

Red Ribbon Week will be held from October 23rd to October 29th. We will be kicking off the week with “All Red Day.” The students get to dress up in as much red as possible to show their pledge to be drug free.

Congratulations to the September
Students of the Month!!!

April Allen, Tyzeria Griffin, Griseida Ramos-Ordaz, Kaden Griffin, Melanie Moore, Jozie Beck, Cali Brogdon, Nicholas Paul, Tyler Hill, Peyton Cuttino, and Lauren Yoder.

THANK YOU to those families who sent in candy for Behavior Buck rewards! The students have loved the special treats for their good behavior. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Coming up in November is Career Month. There will be a sign up form coming your way for guest speakers on the WRES Morning News.
